8th S R Sankaran Memorial Lecture
Centre for Dalit Studies is been conducting the S R Sankaran memorial lecture since 2011 to remember the great personality who has worked his whole life for Marginalized people all over India.
on 22nd October,2018 , 8th S R Sankaran memorial Lecture on “Ambedkar Defence Policy of India” by Prof. Vijay S. Khare, Head Department of Defense and Strategic Studies, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, Savitribai Phule Pune University was delivered at RavindraBharathi,Hyderabad.
Mr. Prathik has started the proceedings by remembering few life events of S R Sankaran and inviting honorable guests to the stage.
While speaking of the topic, Prof.Vijay S.Khare said that Ambedkar was not just a messiah of dalits and oppressed sections, but also an intellect that had opinions on broader issues. He observed that fight between India and Pakistan was not about a piece of land, but a problem between majorities and minorities, and Ambedkar’s foreign policy was focused on the problem. However, policy-makers avoided his thoughts, he flayed. On the internal issues within India, he said that Ambedkar was against the formation of states based on languages. ‘One language, many states’ was his slogan, he added.
Chairperson of CDS Mr.Mallepalli laxmaiah remembered the great works of S R Sankaran in inviting the naxalites to the discussions during the period of Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in Andhra Pradesh by forming a committee called Concerned Citizens Committee.
Vice Chairperson of CDS Prof.V Krishna said that S R Sankaran is one of the rare human beings who have sacrificed his whole life for Dalits and marginalized people.
Prof.Y B Satyanarayana, Director at CDS remembered his close association with S R Sankaran and praised his dedication towards forming ITDA which helps Scheduled Tribes in all the aspects.
Shri. Chukka Ramaiah, Educationist, Shri. K R Venugopal Rtd IAS, Smt.Rama Melkote, Shri.Kaki Madhava Rao Rtd.IAS were the other guests present at the event.
Centre for Dalit Studies has adopted a Tradition of giving Lakshmi – Venugopal award to a girl who secures a first rank in SSC examinations among the girls of the social welfare hostels in Telangana State every year since 2016 in which a memento and a cash price of 10000 will be given. This year award was given to Ms. Kanakaraju Pavitra , D/O Lalitha Venkateshwarlu from Kothapalli Village, Anumula mandal of Nalgonda District.
