Centre for Dalit Studies (CDS) organised 9th SR Sankaran Memorial Lecture on 20th October 2019 at PressClub Somajiguda, Hyderabad.

The lecture was on the topic “Casteism and Communalism : Friends or Enemies ?” by Prof. Satish Deshpande, Department of Sociology, University of Delhi. Proffessor in his lecture said that “Today’s communal agenda is to overthrow the existing reality — equality of all religions. Our Constitution doesn’t recognise the difference between religions. The communal agenda is to ‘correct’ personal law, so that due recognition will be given to the Hindus, that is the communal agenda,”

Recalling the work of late IAS officer SR Sankaran, Mallepalli Laxmaiah, the chairperson of CDS, said, “During his career, Sankaran had worked to eradicate bonded labour, Jogini system, and for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden communities. He collected over 1,500 books for CDS’s library.”

Prof.V.Krishna , Vice Chairman of CDS has recollected the great works of SR Sankaran for the upliftment of Dalits in his career.

On this occasion, Centre for Dalit Studies (CDS) presented Lakshmi-Venugopal Award to a SC girl student Ati Varsha of Siddipet District, (A topper in 10th class for the year 2018-19), among the girl students who studied in government Social Welfare Hostel in the state of Telangana.

Mr.K.R.Venugopal IAS (Rtd), Mr.Kaki Madhava Rao IAS (Rtd), Dr.Ramachandra Murthy People Policy Advisory of Andhra Pradesh, Prof.Limbadri, Vice Chairman of Higher Education, Dr.Kanakaraju, Treasurer of CDS, Mr.V.Prateek, Executive Director of CDS and other CDS Members were present at the lecture.
